WE CAN MAKE A BETTER BELIZE

It's another peaceful night in Belize. Most Belizeans are driving around town in Corozal as I sit in front of this computer and decide what I am going to write next. It is actually 8:05pm as I begin this page.

I guess we are all focused on the political force that has carried us with it as we begin a new chapter in the history of Belize. We now know where it ended on Thursday, February 7th., 2008 and we must be are prepared to move on as we rebuild this jewel that was tarnished for a brief moment in time. As we set about the tasks that lies ahead for each and every one of us we are filled with wonder. It is time for us to "to bite into the pie" and see what we can do to make this country better. Each and every one of us must do something to better this place we call home. There is no time to sit back and leave it to the next person. We must all get to work to make this a place we can be proud of.

To those who work hard to protect and preserve Belize we extend our most sincere thank you. They are our policemen and women, our Belize Defence Force soldiers, our immigration officers, our customs officers, our teachers, our lawyers, our doctors, all our public and civil servants. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for working so that Belize can be a place we can be proud of. Thank you for caring enough. Than you for giving your service to this young country.

The work has just begun. There is a lot to do and a lot we will have to do. Let us put aside hatred and greed. Let us put aside anger and frustration. Let us seek peace and harmony. Let us work for the betterment of this country. Let us work hand in hand for the common good of Belize.

We can do it. We can be a great nation. We can overcome those things that are negative. WE CAN, because WE ARE BELIZEANS. WE ARE THE FRUIT THAT OUR FOREFATHERS STRUGGLED TO PROTECT. WE ARE THE HEIRS OF THIS PROMISED HAVEN OF DEMOCRACY. THIS LAND OF THE FREE IS OURS. IT IS BUILT ON STRONG FOUNDATION. IT CAN BE SOLID. WE JUST HAVE TO WANT TO DO RIGHT BY IT. REMEMBER UNITY IS POWER. LET US UNITE TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY BIGGER AND BETTER. REMEMBER: WE ARE BELIZE!!!

Yours sincerely,
Brenda A. Ysaguirre
