WOMAN, You Have ARRIVED!

WOMAN, the world is yours, it is up to you,
Yours is the choice, what will you do?
There are choices you have to make,
And tests you will have to take,
But the world is at your beck and call,
Now is the time to do it all.

Woman, can you hear the cry of the Land,
You can do it all, Yes you can.
For many, many years you sat back,
Because someone told you intelligence you lacked.
But now I tell you that you have arrived,
This is your time, for now you get to drive.

Woman, you are the unique and true,
You have the power to do all that you can do.
For from the crack of dawn you are up and about,
No one else can do so much, of that I've no doubt.
Whether you are in the home or in an office space,
You have arrived, you are now in the race!

So, Woman, take your rightful place in this world,
You've nothing to fear, my dear girl,
All your tomorrows will extend from this very day,
So watch all you do and listen to all you say.
Enjoy your new birth and this new YOU,
Be love, give love and it will be returned, too.

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOKPINS RESEARCH CENTRE

Cancer Update from John Hopkins
1. Every person has cancer cells in the
body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard
tests until they have multiplied to a
few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no mor e
cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests
are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the
detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more
than 10 times in a person's lifetime

3. When the person's immune system is
strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying
and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates
the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to
genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional
deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen
the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the
rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy
cells in the bo ne marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause
organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer
cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy
and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of
chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9 When the body has too much toxic
burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either
compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds
of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause
cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy.
Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is&nbs p;
to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to
multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting
off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells.
Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with
Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka
honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a
chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's
aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce
mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus.
By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer
cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid
environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and
a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock
antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful,
especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables
and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the
body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food
including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are
easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to
nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for
building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most
vegetables including bean sprouts)and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3
times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at
temperatures of 104 degrees F (40
degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, ;
which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has
cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or
filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled
water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest
and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in
the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough
protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more
enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the
body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune
system (IP6, Flor-ssence,Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs
etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.
Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or
programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged,
unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind,
body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer
warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body
into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and
forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an
oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get
more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means
employed to destroy cancer cells.

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL, U S - PLEASE READ

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out
in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center as well.
Dioxin chemicals causes cancer,
especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of
our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this
releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness
Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this
health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.. He
said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using
plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that
contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and
plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of
the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware,
Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results,
only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and
soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in
something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what
is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware,
etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants
moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one
of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap,
such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked
in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous
toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

AS WOMEN WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE SET OUR MINDS TO!!

IF WE BELIEVE WE CAN CREATE CHANGE, NOTHING CAN STOP US. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)
What does the Belizean woman think of these days?

To be truthful there is too many things occuring in this world daily that the Belizean woman is just one minor reflection of the entire universe. However, we must stop and think that there must be more to life as we know it beyond wars, elections, hunger and starvation, being homeless or teminally ill.

Yes, all thee things affect us and we are faced with the reality that life as we know it is a mould set up by society and from which there is very little escape. So how do we exist outside the box? How do we keep on going down the path that leads to the unknown?

MY friends, we are all alike even when our pains are different. We are all suffering some form of humanity's sadness. It could be all the things I have written above or it could be the lost of friendship, lost of family or lost of the will to go on in this dismal and insane world. So what do we do?

We ARE WOMEN. THERE IS A LOT THAT WE CAN DO. Now this page is for the woman who wants to change and be better. it is for the woman who sees in herslef the possibility to be "A WOMAN WITH ALL THAT AND MORE!"

"ALL THAT AND MORE?" you ask.

Of course. Don't let me think for one minute that you doubt you have the courage to move mountains. WE CAN. WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE SET OUR MINDS TO. We just have to know that we can and it will happen. This is the life we are all thinking about. It is the life we need. It is the life we deserve. Let us remember that in this world there will be times when we will have to call on more of our hidden powers than we are aware of. We will have to do things that we can't understand and we will have to want to do it of the best of our ability.

WOMEN IN SCIENCE - WE'VE COME A LONG WAY BABY!

Women in Science
Kadence Buchanan
More than 25 years have gone by since the U.S. Congress passed the Women in Science and Technology Equal Opportunity Act, which states that it is "the policy of the United States that men and women have equal opportunity in education, training, and employment in scientific and technical fields." But today's academic field illustrates a different reality than that the U.S. Congress wishes to exist. Even if major advances have occurred in relation to women's role in education, academic institutions are still not fully utilizing the pool of women scientists they are producing each year. In fact, the difference between the proportions of women who earn Ph.D.'s and those who are in faculty positions at top universities appears to be most evident in the biological and physical sciences, as well as in engineering.

But these sciences, even if they have been mostly studied by men, have been also studied in great extend by women over the years. While some scholars support that considerable biological differences between men and women affect their representation in science, there is a substantive body of evidence indicating that overall intelligence does not differ between men and women. Still controversy persists as to whether specific aspects of cognitive ability differ. But there is no ideal constellation of cognitive abilities required to be a scientist. To become a successful scientist, one needs to have deductive reasoning abilities, adequate verbal skills, quantitative reasoning, intuition, and social skills. Even if we accept that men and women differ in some of these abilities, there is no basis on which one may assume that men will have greater success than women in science, because different academic backgrounds, personal skills and mental abilities create equally successful approaches and styles. Moreover, there is no convincing evidence that women's representation in science is limited by innate ability. For example, between 1970 and 2003 a considerable 30 percent increase occurred in the proportion of Ph.D.'s granted to women in engineering. Since people support that this was the outcome of dramatic changes in attitudes and laws relevant to gender, the fact that more women were able to successfully graduate from their PhD's programs provides strong evidence of the cultural and structural impediments to women.

Moral and legal imperatives to ensure equal opportunity provide sufficient reasons to examine the causes of the disparities and to attempt to rectify them. Equally compelling is the impact that equity will have on the quality of today's universities and the competitiveness of any nation. Heterogeneity among students, faculty, and staff can strengthen universities' role in fundamental ways. Specifically, the design of more innovative solutions to problems is the outcome of heteroclite groups, which can bring a higher level of critical analysis to decisions. Furthermore, institutions that welcome women foster more favorable working environments for all community members.

Concluding, institutional transformation necessitates collective examination of attitudes and the behaviors observed, which can be rather disquieting, since it requires engagement with issues of life-style, reproduction, hiring, and academic customs. But, the most uncomfortable of every possible discovery is the realization that all people have their own unconscious biases, which can shape behavior patterns and lead to such gaps.

Kadence Buchanan writes articles on many topics including Women's World, Science, and Nursing.

LA NUEVA VIDA/ NEW LIFE

La persona que sabe aceptar la vida como es, es la persona que sabe como hacer de la vida mejor de lo que es.(Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

The person who knows to accept life as it is, is the person who knows how to make life better than it is. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

LIFE IS A DREAM. I AM POSITIVE OF THAT NOW MORE THAN I EVER WAS. There are no happy endings. There are just endings that that can make you happy. There are no great romances, just romances that are great.

You are going to ask how I got to this conclusion. Well, it was easy. I looked at the world around me and I saw a place filled with hatred, jealousy, pain, suffering, lies, deceit, love and hope. When you see all this you have got to realize that there are more negative feelings than positive emotions. This is bad. This is the pinnacle on which the chaos in the world is founded.

So what can we do when we realize that the world we live in is falling apart? Not much I must say except be happy for every day we are alive. Be happy to share the love we feel for ourselves with others and above all look at the errors we make in our daily lives and try to better them.

To do this we have got to put aside all the negative things that surround us. We must not allow them to invade our realm. We must try with all the substance in our being to
Spread love and good throughout the world. What if the person does not like us, you may ask. What do we do with that person? I could easily say what I would have said a year ago which would be: Forget the wasted piece of mush. Don’t focus on the people around you who are not your friends. Don’t try to be nice to the ungrateful, deceitful scumbags of society. However, today I can’t tell you that. It is no longer my philosophy, thanks to a very near and dear friend. Today I would have to tell you that we have to love everyone and more so those that hurt us. Incredible but true. Don’t get me wrong. It is hard as hell to do that. To the normal person it would probably be even harder because we have the pain and the anger to fight with. However, we have got to live with ourselves so we have to be happy and to be contented we have got to love everyone. Trust me it is still hard for me and I won’t do it right away but in time I will be able to look over my shoulder and say, “I forgive you for all you put me through.” Just make sure you don’t wait for it standing up. Hahahaha. It will take time.

I can do as I like. I will give love in time. There is no rush so let me be who I am. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

Yo Puedo hacer lo que quiero. Voy a dar amor, pero con tiempo. No hay prisa asi que dejame ser como soy. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

TODAY IS THE DAY I ATTAIN MY INDEPENDENCE

These days it seems that I can do nothing right. Either I am abusing of my power here or stealing someones treasure somewhere else. It is getting tiresome. So What do we do when the walls start to cave in. Should we sit back and suck it up? Should we fight tooth and nail? Should we free ourselves of all the secrets and get the parasite off our backs? Should we...? Should we...?

Yes there are lots of questions that we have to ask ourselves when we are caught basically in the middle.

Maybe OSHO would say, "Ignore the current and swim with the tide." Maybe he would say, "Tomorrow will be a better day so don't worry about today."

Well guess what? I am really sorry but I will do neither. I will fight tooth and nail and I will take prisoners where there are and I will sink the vessel and I will take the tide and the wind and the rain and the elements of this world and use them for myself. This is how wars begin. This is how S*** happens. This is how you make me when you piss me off. Look out the monster is on the roll. Get out of my way or you will know the wrath of this woman. Enough is enough. I am tired of everyone who thinks they have the right to tell me what to do. Today is the dawn of a new day. Today is the day I attain my INDEPENDENCE. AND IT FEELS DAMN GOOD!

Ladies, this is how we must be. Strong and ready for action. No time to sit back and think. The time for thinking is over. It is time for action. This is the wrong time of the year for people to make me angry. All the stars and the moon are in the right place to fuel my anger. Well, that is just too bad. Now we will see what we will see.

Have a great day. It is Holy Saturday. Hopefully Easter Sunday will be better and I can have some fun. If not, NO SWEAT!

Remember, sometimes we have got to get angry to purge our minds and bodies of bad energies. Do not despair if you don't feel happy every day. Some days we have to go with the flow and some days we have to turn and fight the current. Today is that day.
Now watch what happens.

LOVE,

FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO EDUCATE AND ASSIST OTHERS

A CALL TO ARMS

The unexpected has finally come to past. The day when someone will look me in the face and say on of my blogs is an abuse of my position. People, the last time I checked I lived in a free society in a free world and I was allowed freedom by the blogspot on the internet to voice my opinions and to try to help others to learn. I pray the readers out there will see what I am saying and tell me if there has been anything on these blogs of mine that has misled anyone. I am a teacher by profession and director of the school in which I teach and one I am ashamed of my profession at the moment. You will ask why I am ashamed. My answer is because if a colleague can look me in the face and write on paper that I am abusing my position with the use of these or any of my blogs or website when all I set out to do was to help my students and to give some colour to their little Corozal Town lives, then there is something wrong with the educational system in which I live. Either it will have to go or I will.

This is the why wars begin. People misunderstand things because they are told a lot of rubbish and ideas are pushed into their already packed brain. I urge each and everyone to stop and think before they listen to others. Ask yourself why is this person doing this and what is the hidden agenda? People do things for different reasons. Think. Why would someone who is supposed to be a friend or was a friend at one time, of another person, suddenly turn on him or her?

I will tell you right now if I am told that this entry was wrong to write there will be a lot of changes in Belize very soon. My democratic right as a citizen in a free country must never be taken for granted. I may be a lot of things to different people, but I am a caring, honest teacher and Director. I fight for the right to learn and to have choices that will assist students to become strong men and women of Belize. It was my hope that one day someone out there would see these blogs and want to assist the school or students. THAT WAS MY HOPE. IT IS STILL MY HOPE AND I WILL TRY MY BEST TO SEE SOMETHING POSTIVE IN REGARDS TO THE BLOGS so they are not WRITTEN IN VAIN.

If you asked me why I began the blogs I would have to honestly say because Mr. Abel Lopez Rodriquez showed me how to do them. Abel is a person who sees the good in everything and everyone. I have had to tell him more than once that there are people who are around who are dangerous, conniving and just plain mean. All that sea breeze must be getting to the brain and causing a deficiency called “deception”. Trust me there will be no forgiving from now on.

Write me at http://cccandcjc-ace.blogspot.com and visit my website http://brendaysaguirre.galeon.com and tell me if I am abusing my connections with my school. I am calling on all bloggers to give me a hand on this. Give me the ammunition I need to fight back to save my blogs and myself. Today it is me, but tomorrow it can be YOU.

Thank you,
Brenda A. Ysaguirre

BETRAYAL AND HASTY DECISIONS CAN HAUNT YOU LONG AFTER IT IS OVER

Many time in life we are faced with some very serious decisions and situations. Whatever the outcome, we struggle along and bear our burden as best we can. We try to understand why people we know do things that are not nice or proper or just not what we expect of them. We wonder why our lives are filled with circumstances that make us consider all the other times that things went against us.

How do we move on when a friend becomes an enemy? To be truthful, it is very hard to deal with betrayal. It could take a very long time to get over the deception and the hurt. Some people never believe that is could be the honourable thing to stop and grow.

Please, if you are like me, try to keep things on a smooth note. Meditate and appreciate life. Be positive and smile at the world. Try to understand that life is forever changing and that Man moves along at a pace that is acceptable to Life.

While we may not forgive the person that does us wrong, we can try to become better people and we can do this by examining our thoughts and our lives.

A note to those people who set out to destroy others: The Bible tells us that we should be good. It preaches on love and kindness. If you cannot love all our brothers and sisters then you are not obeying God's commandments.

Remember:
LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND HOW WE SURVIVE IN IT DEPENDS ON HOW WELL WE ARE ABLE TO ADAPT BEYOND IT. (BRENDA A. YSAGUIRRE)

I WILL FORGIVE YOU ONE DAY BECAUSE YOUR PAIN HAS SHADOWED YOUR BETTER JUDGEMENT BUT FOR NOW YOUR ACTIONS HURT MORE THAN A THOUSAND DAGGARS.

WOMAN, YOU NEED TO REFLECT ON YOUR ACTIONS. YOU ARE HEADING DOWN THE PATH OF NO RETURN. I WON'T BE ABLE TO SAVE YOU FROM YOURSELF. REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE SHARED AND LET SLEEPING DOGS LAY. YOU DO NOT WANT TO AWAKE THE SLEEPING GIANT.

YOU WERE MY SISTER, YOU WERE MY FRIEND. WE PROMISED TO LOVE EACH OTHER TO THE END.
I SHARED YOUR PAIN, I SHARED YOUR SORROW. ITS TIME TO LOOK TOWARDS TOMORROW.

LOSING FOCUS ON REALITY

To forgive is probably worst if you cannot forget that which intrudes the mind and heart. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

When we are faced with reality how do we separate our dreams from that which is obvious?

There was once a girl who believed that if she thought all would be wonderful, it would be. For days she had positive thought about everything around her.

"I will be a great student and pass all my tests and exams with flying colours," she thought. Surprisingly, she had three tests that week and passed all three. "Wow," she thought, " this postive thinking really work."

In reality she had studied for those tests and had been prepared for them.

"I will apply for a few part-time jobs and by the end of this week I should have the one I really want," she thought one day. And so she did and sure enough by the end of the week she had gotten the part-time job of her dreams.

"I will make new friends and meet the man of my dreams," she thought the next week. Once again this did happen and Mia,that's the girl's name, was in cloud nine.

Not once did Mia stop to think why her thoughts had come true. She did not realize that she had gotten the job because of her good grades and the recommendation that her teachers had given her. She accepted that her thinking it would be happen had gotten her the job.

She did not stop to think that she made friends easily because she was really a nice person, with a nice smile and that her willingness to help others had gained her the admiration of her peers.

SHE FOCUSED ON BELIEVING THAT IF SHE BELIEVED IT, THINGS WOULD HAPPEN.

Soon she began to change. She stopped studying and her grades fell. She sstopped being interested in her part-time job and she lost her job. Her friends saw a change in her as she began to act like they needed her. Her freindlinss and carefree attitude was replaced with a cold shouldered person who was fixed in believing that life was hers for the thinking.

She became a person filled with herself and lost the vision that had taken her to the place of wonder and admiration of all.

THIS IS NOT A SOAP OPERA! THERE IS NO HAPPY ENDING. MIA DIED A BITTER, LONELY PERSON.
TRUTH BE TOLD SHE COMMITTED SUICIDE. THIS WAS NOT NECESSARY BUT SHE COULD NOT FORGIVE HERSELF FOR LOSING FOCUS OF REALITY. IT HAD HAUNTED HER FOR DAYS AFTER SHE HAD LOST HER JOB, HER FRIENDS AND HER SCHOLARSHIP DUE TO HER BAD GRADES.

What is the moral of this story?
ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD. YOU control your life. If you lose your vision, you could lose your life or your way of living. Try to remain focused. Try to have your own identity and never let your heart tell you that things must be accepted as they are. You owe it to yourself to not lose focus of reality.

havea great day, and remember IT MAY SEEM TO BE OVER, BUT IT HAS JUST BEGAN!

LAS 10 COMIDAS MAS RECOMENDADAS PARA DELGAZAR

10 Best Slimming Foods
By Julie Meyer, R.D.

Looking for a miracle diet food? It's time to call off the search — there's no such thing. "If you take in more calories than you expend, you gain weight," says David Katz, M.D., of the Yale Prevention Research Center in Derby, Connecticut. "It's simple biology, and no milkshake or mackerel can save you from that fate."
But before you throw in the towel, there are certain foods that promote satiety (the feeling of fullness that comes after a meal) more than others. While they're not miracle foods, they can help you eat less over the course of the day. "When you're looking for foods that are going to keep you fuller for longer, look for ones high in fiber, healthy fats and protein, or with a high water content," says Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at Penn State University and author of The Volumetrics Eating Plan. "The additional benefit is that a lot of these foods are also really good for you and packed with important nutrients, vitamins and minerals."
Apples
An apple a day may keep the fat pants away, too. This portable fruit is the perfect snack, with a high water content and both kinds of weight-busting fiber: soluble, which helps prevent blood sugar spikes that lead to cravings, and insoluble, which helps fill you up. "A medium apple is about 85 percent water with 5 grams of soluble fiber, making it a snacking powerhouse," says Elisa Zied, M.S., same calorie level. To sweeten the pot, apples also contain quercetin, a flavonoid shown to help fight certain cancers, reduce cholesterol damage and promote healthy lungs.
TIP: Organic apples are worth the extra cost because commercial apples retain more pesticide residue than fruits you peel, such as oranges or bananas. And with half the fiber and most of the iron, magnesium and vitamin C, you definitely want to eat that peel to get the full slimming benefits.
Eggs
They're a great source of protein, which may be key to keeping you full. A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that when people ate two eggs for breakfast, they took in more than 400 fewer calories over the next 24 hours than when they ate bagels. "The study proved our hypothesis that eating eggs induces higher satiety and keeps the subject fuller for longer," says lead researcher Nikhil V. Dhurandhar, Ph.D., from Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although this was only a one-day study, eating eggs regularly may have long-term weight management benefits, says Dr. Dhurandhar.
TIP: For a healthier egg, farmers are improving the hen feed by adding canola oil, alfalfa, rice bran and even sea kelp. Try Eggland's Best eggs, which contain omega-3 fatty acids, along with more vitamin E and less saturated fat than regular eggs.
One study found that eating a breakfast of two eggs can leave you feeling full longer than a bagel.
Cauliflower
"When you are trying to lose weight, non-starchy vegetables such as cauliflower are one of the few foods that can be eaten in unlimited quantities," says Dr. Rolls. It's good for you, too. Cauliflower contains the cancer-fighting phytonutrient sulforaphane, as well as a good amount of folate and vitamin C, which may be helpful for weight loss. In fact, a review from Purdue University pointed to vitamin C status as a key factor in how much fat is burned during physical activity. All that and it's pretty tasty, too. (If you're not a cauliflower fan, try spinach or broccoli.)
TIP: Love the creamy consistency of mashed potatoes? Steam a head of cauliflower and mash it with garlic salt, a sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese and a touch of butter.
Lowfat Yogurt
If the yogurt ads are to be believed, you should be fitting into that itty-bitty bikini before you know it. While yogurt and other dairy products are not weight-loss magic bullets, there is some truth in advertising. A recent study at the University of Tennessee found that dieters eating three servings of yogurt daily lost twice as much weight as their non–dairy– eating counterparts on a 12-week weight-loss program. Why? "Calcium combined with other bioactive compounds found in dairy products slows down the process of making fat and increases fat burning, especially around the belly," says lead researcher Michael B. Zemel, M.D., a professor of nutrition and medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. No word yet on how effective ice cream is at burning fat, but we're not holding our breath.
TIP: Sneak more dairy into your diet by adding plain yogurt to dips, sauces and salad dressings. You get the health benefits without the added sugar of flavored yogurts.
Oatmeal
Mom didn't know how right she was: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day — just eating it can make you slimmer. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley analyzed a national six-year survey and found that people who ate breakfast had a lower body mass index (BMI) than people who skipped breakfast, and that those who ate cooked cereal had a lower BMI than any other breakfast-eating group. Also, oatmeal was ranked as the most satiating breakfast food on the Satiety Index, developed by Australian researchers a decade ago, and it's the third most satiating food overall. "Oatmeal helps you stay fuller longer, since it's packed with fiber and is a good source of protein," says Dr. Katz.
TIP: If you don't have time for cooked oatmeal every morning, make muesli by mixing old- fashioned oats with plain yogurt, dried fruit and fruit juice and leaving it in the fridge overnight.
Peanuts
Almonds and walnuts have been getting all the glory these days, but don't discredit peanuts, the most commonly eaten nut in America. Researchers at Purdue University found that peanut eaters end up eating less over the course of the whole day and are more likely to maintain weight, even if given as many peanuts as they want. So what is it about peanuts? Is it the protein? The fat? Turns out it's a little bit of everything. "We've tried to isolate different components of the nut to determine what makes it so filling,' says Richard Mattes, Ph.D., a nut researcher at Purdue. "But there is something special about the whole package."
TIP: Calories do count, so look for single-serving sizes at convenience stores and drugstores.
Soup
We all know soup is good food, but who knew it was slimming, too? A recent study published in the journal Obesity Research found that adding two 10-ounce servings of broth-based soup to a weight loss diet each day can almost double the amount of weight lost in a six-month period. Why? Adding water into a food makes it more filling than drinking water separately. "The water in soup adds volume to a meal and helps you feel fuller, without extra calories,' says Dr. Rolls, lead researcher on the study. "As a result, you take in fewer calories over the course of the day."
TIP: Add your own veggies or fiber-rich beans to broth-based canned soup to keep you full longer.
Fish
You might be surprised to learn that fish tops oatmeal and vegetables in the satiety department. The Australian Satiety Index ranks steamed white fish such as halibut or cod as the number-one most filling food out of 38 common foods. Also, a new study from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden found that people ate 11 percent less at dinner after having fish for lunch versus those who ate a beef lunch. "This study demonstrated that a protein-rich lunch meal with fish protein reduced calorie intake compared with the same-calorie lunch meal of beef protein," says lead researcher Saeedah Borzoei, Ph.D. Why is it so filling? "We are still learning about the filling properties of fish, but we do know that fish has a strong flavor, which can lead to greater satiety and less of a need to eat," notes Dr. Katz.
TIP: To add some flavor to grilled fish, try a quick marinade of soy sauce, lime and ginger.
Bulgur
High-fiber grains are a great way to round out a meal, and fine-cut bulgur is easy to cook. Bulgur, which is a quick-cooking form of whole wheat, takes about 10 minutes or less to prepare once water is boiled and is a great substitute for white rice and pasta, which are low in fiber and heavily processed. "Fiber helps prolong the insulin response so you don't have the blood sugar spikes you have with low-fiber carbohydrates like white pasta or rice," says Dr. Katz. With all the good fiber comes some other benefits: iron and vitamins E and B6.
TIP: Find bulgur in health-food stores and organic markets. For a quick side dish, combine fine bulgur with chicken broth, diced canned tomatoes and some cooked onions.
Salad
When most people think of dieting, they think of salad. But if that means some sad greens topped with unripe tomatoes, it's no wonder diets don't work. "Salads are a great opportunity to add a lot of filling foods into your diet at one time: fresh vegetables, lean protein, beans and healthy fats," says Dr. Rolls. And research backs it up. A study from Penn State University found that women who ate a salad before a pasta lunch ate fewer calories for the whole meal than those just digging into the pasta.
TIP: Start your salad with mesclun, arugula or spinach. Not only are these greens tastier than iceberg, they also contain more iron, calcium, vitamin C and folate.

ADA MAUD SMITH - MY LOVING GRANDMOTHER

My grandmother would have had a birthday yesterday if she were alive. It is many years now that the Creator took her home and I still carry her memories in my heart.

ADA MAUD SMITH was a kind woman and fundly known as "Madda" or "Aunt Ad's" by everyone. She became more that a grandmother to me when I was seven. That's the year I was shipped out of Belize City and into Corozal Town to live wih her and my aunt Brenda after whom I was named.

Thus, she is responsible for the way I grew up and I will forever be grateful to that loving woman.

We came from a middle class family but over the years with the jobs held by my grandfather, my father and my mother you could say we got to the top. I think it was more because of my grandfather and his position as District Commissioner that did it all. Anyway, the Ysaguirre's and the Ysaguirre name is and has been big for some time now.

Ada Maud was a story teller and a very intelligent student who attended first, St Mary's School(an excellent Anglican School) in Belize City and then St. Catherine Academy (one of the best Catholic School's in Belize). She actually had to leave St. Mary's School because she needed to wear glasses and the children at school started to call her "four-eyed puss" and she would go home in tears every day. So off to St. Ctherine's Academy she went. She was at the top of the class just as she had been at St. Mary's but was not Catholic. She told me that due to that her first place award at the end of the schooling was not given to her. St. Catherine's School at that time awarded gold pins to their honour students. She was awarded second place and a novel - Jane Eyre. That was excellent any way. I read it many years later - heractual gift that is, an old book by then but still proudly kept by her. When I went to teach at Corozal Community College I read it in Literature class and of course have seen the movie many times. I have also been to the Bronte Parsonage in England - the home, now a museum where the Bronte girls grew up. Anyway, back to Ada Maud Smith.

My grandmother told many great stories. She had lived during interesting times and all the occurences of World War II in Belize was vividly painted and told to us. Her favorite opener was "BEFORE THE WAR...". Whenever she would begin a story, my cousin Elena would always asked her if it was "Before the War?"

She was fun. She use to tell her doctor she wanted to live to a hundred. Then one day as she was getting nearing and nearer to thehundred she decided to change that. "I want to get over a hundred," she would tell him. She was a wonderful creature. One of God's blessed creation.

Her cooking was wonderful too. I still can't match that but I try.

She was very disciplined too. Oh, yes. I got some whipping in my days. I was a little brat sometimes. Just the normal child, I guess.

When she finlly showed the first signs of illness I was with her as my aunt was on vacation for the first time to England where her two sisters and their families live. the next few years showed her to suffer more until she finally left us.
MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.

I owe my grandmother a very lot. I cherish her in my heart and I miss her. Sunday, while in church I saw a young girl sitting with her grandfather and she kept carressing him and hugging him. I sat just behind them so I had to see it all. That is when I realized how much I miss having my "CHICHI" (that's what the grandchildren called her. It is a Mayan endearment for grandma.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,CHICHI. I MISS YOU AND I LOVE YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND FOR CARING FOR ME. YOU ARE IN MY HEART AND IN MY PRAYERS, ALWAYS.

Love,
Your Granddaughter,
Brenda

THE MOUTH IS A DANGEROUS WEAPON

Sometimes people are unaware of their actions and what comes out of their mouths even worst. What never stops to amaze me though, is the words that people use when they are jealous of others. They will find everything wrong with that person.

Take my over weight friends. Most of them, thank goodness, want to lose weight. So the fact that I have lost over 35 pounds on Omnilife products in the pass 6 months interests them and they have gotten on the plan, too.

Now if you recall I said MOST of them. There are still a few, three so far, that have had very negative comments. To avoid me saying the wrong things I have discontinued seeing them and being around them. I have no time for negative people. Remember that is what we must do when people begin to insult us. Don't hit back. Just leave and never go back. You don't need those kinds of so called friends.

So, while we must not pass negative comments, we must also avoid being around negative people. The world is a beautiful place. If you have to be alone to not be around negativity, then so be it. Get a good book, or read all my blogspots. I have enough to keep you busy every day. Or go for walks and just enjoy being with yourself. Life is worth living and you can be all that you need.

Have a great day and remember, SAY ONLY GOOD THINGS ABOUT PEOPLE. IT IS LIKE SAYING IF YOU LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES, DON'T THROW STONES.

Remember also: PEACE OF BODY AND MIND BRINGS FULFILMENT OF HEART AND SOUL.

LOVE YOURSELF SO YOU CAN LOVE OTHERS.

Yours always,

WHEN IT IS TIME TO STOP BEING SILENT

Why are there people in our lives that just bug us? I don't know why they can't understand that while they seem to be thinking and are intelligent beings sometimes they just go off on a tangent and get on our bad sides.

They always have a gripe. They always have something that YOU do that affects them to the point of having them react. They get all flustered over the little things in life and don't seem to realize that they can get on YOUR nerves.

They also have a way of telling others before they tell you. Now that I have a problem with. I have always been known to speak my mind and to tell others exactly what I think about them. No behind the back thing with me. I come from a family of people who have held hig positions in all walks of life and like them I am outspoken and a work-a-holic. Don't get me wrong, I can have fun too and do spend time quietly, although most of my friends know me for my big mouth.

For some reason though I have beenholding back and have not told this person that she is bugging me. I don't think I will be doing that much longer and this is where this blog is going.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SOMEONE YOU HAVE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME AND YOU FELL YOU CAN TALK TO THAT PERSON ON A ONE TO ONE BASIS DON'T KEEP INSIDE THE FEELING THAT YOU CAN'T TELL HER (OR HIM) THAT THEY ARE GETTING IN YOUR NERVES. YOU COULD GET SICK JUST HOLDING IN YOUR ANGER OR FRUSTRATION. GET TO THE POINT. MAKE THEM SEE THAT THEY ARE GETTING ON YOUR CASE AND THAT THEY ARE LOSING TACT. SOME PEOPLE CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES THEY JUST DO THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE OVERWHELMED AND HAVE NOT REALIZED THAT THEY ARE GETTING ON OTHER'S NERVES.

So while we smeel the roses, listen to the silence and try to be the silence SOMETIMES WE HAVE GOT TO TALK!

Have a wonderful day and keep on reading.

Love,
Brenda

DON'T FORGET WHEN A DOOR CLOSES, ANOTHER OPENS

Another very early Monday is here. Another of the last free hours before we all start the week and go back to the rat race of working like machines. For the few of us who really enjoy our jobs we are already planning how we will get the week done with all the things we have to do and all the added things we want to do.

A while ago I asked you to stop and listen to the silence and smell the roses. I do hope that you took this information into your hands and decided to do just that.

We are in the third month of the year already and it is time to set goals and make plans for the rest of the year. Hard, you may be saying. However, just focus on the truth – it is not impossible. When one door closes, another opens. This is a true saying and one we should heed. Never give up or give in, my Belizean women and womenfrom other country who read this blog.

You have to remember that there is a lot to focus on: your food intake, getting the kids and a husband off to school and work every day and then settling into your work space. Whether it is in the home(where I believe there is more to do than in an office)or in the firm or institution where you exercise your talent, do it well so it is no big feat to focus on yourself. Becuse that is the problem. We are too busy doing for others that we tend to forget ourselves. I must tell you this right now. IF we don’t focus on ourselves pretty soon we will be lost in the weaves to continue being angry and dissatisfied by the things that we go.

So take up a challenge. Try new things or new ways of doing things FOR YOURSELF. Always be courteous to others. Be caring and kind. Be truthful. If you can't say the truth DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! It is the only way we will attain fulfilment.

Have a great day and remember to be all that you can be. YOU ARE WOMAN! BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!

Yours sincerely,
Brenda A. Ysaguirre

EL GRUPO FEMENISTA APOYA A HILLARY CLINTON

Feminists stick with Clinton
WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Some feminists say Hillary Clinton could lose the Democratic presidential nomination to a rival who beats her in oratory but not experience.

The Boston Globe reported Tuesday that feminists see the New York senator being unfairly dogged by her rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

Martha Burk, chairwoman of the National Council of Women's Organizations, said Clinton's campaign might be foundering because she is not the "glamor" candidate.

"She characterizes herself as being a workhorse and not a show horse," Burk said. "She is being punished in a certain way for being competent and not jazzy. If he were female, with his credentials, age and track record, I don't think he'd be anywhere near the presidency of the United States."

Despite Obama's recent spate of wins in the state nominating contests, Clinton's feminist backers say they believe she will be the Democratic nominee.

"All of the substance, all of the work, all of the policies, all of the accomplishments probably don't come off as flashy," said Ramona Oliver, communications director for EMILY's List, which raises money for female Democratic candidates.

LISTENING TO THE SILENCE ( A Continuation of yesterday's philosophical blog)

Has someone ever hurt your feelings? Maybe the person whom we love the most says something that hurts us or we tell them something to hurt them. We need to think before we talk before we hurt people. Sometime your parents tell you hurtful things. We tell them things that hurt, too. This means that humans open their mouths for a lot of things which are not necessarily the best things.

When we listen to the silence and don’t say anything there is a hidden message. Take a man and a woman side by side and in the middle, a family in problems. This is like the story of Romeo and Juliet. The families can go to church and sit away from each other. These families can send messages without saying a thing. The lovers can say something also without talking. They use their energy in just looking at each other. This is what listening to the silence is all about. Maybe if we talk we attack people because we think they are thinking bad things about us. Maybe they aren’t even thinking about us. We are worrying about a lot of things that aren’t real. If you think life is about getting married and working and having things, you are wrong. That is not life. WE are doing wrong. We listen to a lot of stupid things like soap operas and shows on television that have no meaning.

The result of this blog depends on whether one person understands or learns from this topic. If only one person learns I am happy. We need to understand what is around us. For many years scientists believed we do not come from here. What do you think?
Do we belong here? I think we do and you know why? Because we need oxygen and trees do, too and surprisingly that is what is here on Earth –OXYGEN. So we both belong here. All animals from prehistoric times have evolved. Since we are animals you can see what I mean because we have evolved, too.

Animals do not need to kill to live. They don’t really kill to eat. Lions and tigers can be around all other animals and will not attack. Now take humans who are children of God. They are killing in wars even today. Why do we need to kill others? Why must we hurt others? Is that the definition of humans?

When we are by the seaside the sea does not talk to us. The fishes do not come out and talk to us. Yet we can listen to the sea. How do we listen to the silence? We can be filled with the silence of the sea because we may begin to meditate. We should learn to do this everyday in life. Meditate. But first it is to the bathroom then breakfast. Has anyone done differently? No really we all get up, go to the bathroom and then to get ready for breakfast. Not for an instance do we listen to the silence.

Last night millions of people went to sleep and did not awake this morning. A million more could not get up and had to be attended to by a care provider. Their food had to be prepared and they had to wait to be attended to. We don’t think about the right things when we get up. We should accept life and be happy that we awake each day. Having everything else is good but the best is that we have awaken to yet another day. We should be happy and thankful. And don’t worry about things when you go to sleep. Lots of people didn’t live to get back to sleep last night or tonight. So be thankful for your life.

Things will fall into place if you have faith in yourself and if you accept your realities. Two words can create positive change. I CAN. If you think you can, you will. Remember dedication and hard work are only parts of the puzzle but they can get us to success.

You can say it in Spanish too: Yo Puedo!!

Until tomorrow, don't forget to listen to the silence.

With Love,
Brenda A. Ysaguirre
