THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN PARENTS AND CHILDREN

When we seek to control a child, we end up sending them away. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

In today's world so many evil things are happening that it is hard for parents to keep control of their children. Unfortunately, while most children may come from good homes and have been brought up the proper way, the friends that they make in school sometimes are the ruination of their lives.

So, how can parents keep their child out of trouble and away from those bad influences that are ever present today? Not an easy task I must tell you as I see most of my friends who have children deal with this situation. I thank God that my daughter is now happily married and the mother of a 61/2 year old daughter. Otherwise I would be biting my nails too.

It is no small wonder that many parents are trying to control the outings of their children. It has gotten to the point where in some of the homes the only way the child will get out is if it is on a family outing. But does this solve the problem? NO! In fact one family that I know of is having a very hard time indeed with this problem.

Both parents are very strong willed and refuse to let their daughter, who is over
18, go out on weekends with her friends. So you would think that would solve the problem, right? NO WAY!

In fact, the daughter is skips classes and goes out with her friends.

PARENTS, YOU HAVE GOT TO LEARN TO LISTEN AND TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CHILDREN. TOO MUCH RULES AND YOUR BEING STRICT WILL NOT MAKE THEM DO WHAT YOU WANT. TELL A CHILD "NO" AND THE FIRST THING HE OR SHE WILL DO IS FINE A WAY TO GO AGAINST THAT COMMAND.

WEREN'T YOU A YOUTH ONCE? HOW DID YOU BEHAVE? WHAT MISCHIEF DID YOU GET INTO? I KNOW YOU WEREN'T A LITTLE CHURCH MOUSE OR A COMPLETE RECLUSE AT HOME. LET'S BE FAIR TO THE YOUTHS. THEY NEED THEIR TIME WITH THEIR FRIENDS AND THEIR FREEDOM NOW AND AGAIN.

THE KEY TO THIS IS 'TRUST'. PARENTS, YOU HAVE GOT TO LEARN TO TRUST YOUR CHILDREN OR YOU WILL LOSE THEM. THINK BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING YOU WILL REGRET IN THE END.

Have a great day!

God Bless You,
Brenda A. Ysaguirre

JEALOUSY

Hahahahahaha. WISH I KNEW HOW TO CHANGE THE NAME ON THIS PICTURE!!! HAHA

I know sometimes you readers are probably saying we need to relax and have fun. Well, today the devil got into the computer and I just can't tell it what to do. So we will go with the flow and say jealousy was INVENTED by...... what ARE YOU THINKING? Don't you have a little jealous bone in your body? Know anyone who has NEVER BEEN JEALOUS? I bet you don't!

So, who invented jealousy? Well...... hate to say it, guys, but you MEN DID! You do things that just get under our skin and make us jealous. Now, most men love to know that we are jealous and will do too many things to get us to that point. HOWEVER, there are a FEW MEN who don't like jealous women. TOUGH! EVERY WOMAN HAS A JEALOUS BONE. Some will hide it, some will throw it out every single moment of the day and night and some have yet to realize they have it. Bottom dollar, you just have to take us as we are or WHATEVER!

I am a very jealous person. I don't plan to hide it and I don't plan to change in a hurry. I am having too much fun now. Maybe I will write a poem on my poetry page belizeantothebone.blogspot.com one day about jealousy. I think it is the topic for more conversation too, so keep tune to THIS women's page:
brenda-dreamsandrealitiesofabelize.blogspot.com for an opinion essay on JEALOUSY coming soon! This is the beginning of too much fun!

Peace and have a little JEALOUSY today! It may just keep the doctor away and stress, too!

THE DEATH OF A STAR

The Mystery of Life is but a thing to be admired. Brenda A. Ysaguirre

WASHINGTON - In a stroke of cosmic luck, astronomers for the first time witnessed the start of one of the universe's most fiery events: the end of a star's life as it exploded into a supernova.
On Jan. 9, astronomers used a NASA X-ray satellite to spy on a star already well into its death throes, when another star in the same galaxy started to explode. The outburst was 100 billion times brighter than Earth's sun. The scientists were able to get several ground-based telescopes to join in the early viewing and the first results were published in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
"A star exploded right before my eyes," lead author Alicia Soderberg, an astrophysics researcher at Princeton University, said Wednesday in a teleconference.
She likened it to "winning the astronomy lottery. We caught the whole thing from start-to-finish on tape."
Another scientist, University of California at Berkeley astronomy professor Alex Filippenko, called it a "very special moment because this is the birth, in a sense, of the death of a star."
And what a death blast it is.
"As much energy is released in one second by the death of a star as by all of the other stars you can see in the visible universe," Filippenko said.
Less than 1 percent of the stars in the universe will die this way, in a supernova, said Filippenko, who has written a separate paper awaiting publication. Most stars, including our sun, will get stronger and then slowly fade into white dwarfs, what Filippenko likes to call "retired stars," which produce little energy.
The first explosion of this supernova can only be seen in the X-ray wave length. It was spotted by NASA's Swift satellite, which looks at X-rays, and happened to be focused on the right region, Soderberg said. The blast was so bright it flooded the satellite's instrument, giving it a picture akin to "pointing your digital camera at the sun," she said.
Soderberg said that by seeing it live in X-rays, astronomers on Earth learned of the supernova about a month before they normally would.
The chances of two simultaneous supernovae explosions so close to each other is maybe 1 in 10,000, Soderberg said. The odds of looking at them at the right time with the right telescope are, well, astronomical.
Add to that the serendipity of the Berkeley team viewing the same region with an optical light telescope. It took pictures of the star about three hours before it exploded.
This new glimpse of a supernova seems to confirm decades-old theories on how stars explode and die, not providing many surprises, scientists said. That makes the findings "a cool thing," but not one that fundamentally changes astrophysics, said University of California, Santa Cruz astrophysicist Stan Woosley, who wasn't part of the research.
The galaxy with the dual explosions is a run-of-the-mill cluster of stars, not too close and not too far from the Milky Way in cosmic terms, Soderberg said. The galaxy, NGC2770, is about 100 million light years away. One light year is 5.9 trillion miles.
The star that exploded was only about 10 million years old. It was the same size in diameter as the sun, but about 10 to 20 times more dense.
"The big stars live fast and die young," said Harvard astronomy professor Robert Kirshner. "We don't know if they leave a beautiful corpse."
The death of this star went through stages, with the core getting heavier in successive nuclear reactions and atomic particles being shed out toward the cosmos, Filippenko said. It started out in its normal life with hydrogen being converted to helium, which is what is happening in our sun. The helium then converts to oxygen and carbon, and into heavier and heavier elements until it turns into iron.
That's when the star core becomes so heavy it collapses in on itself, and the supernova starts with a shock wave of particles piercing through the shell of the star, which is what the Soderberg team captured on x-rays.
People at home can simulate how this shockwave works, Filippenko said.
Take a basketball and a tennis ball, get about five feet above the ground and rest the tennis ball on top of the basketball. Drop them together and the tennis ball will soar on the bounce. The basketball is the collapsing core and the tennis ball is the shockwave that was seen by astronomers, he said.

POBRE LA MUJER - SIEMPRE SEGUE ATRAS

Women Underrepresented in Disease Studies
ADELAIDE, Australia (UPI) -- The traditional model of medical research on white males may not be as easily extrapolated as expected to females and minorities, an Australian study indicates.

The study, published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, suggests women are underrepresented in research focusing on significant health issues unrelated to reproduction.

Wendy Rogers and Angela Ballantyne of the School of Medicine at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, said that at first, the numbers in the 400 clinical studies -- all conducted in Australia and published in journals between Jan. 1, 2003, and May 31, 2006 -- did not show women as underrepresented. Of the 546,824 persons in the studies, 73 percent are female.

However, a closer look shows the numbers are larger due to the greater number and size of female-only studies dealing with reproduction.

In research in which men and women both participated, male participants were more than three times as likely to be involved. Other data provided by the Australian researchers indicated that gender-specific results reporting is particularly lacking in pharmaceutical research.

"Research on women's health continues to focus predominantly on their reproductive capacity and function, whereas research with men continues to investigate conditions that are not specific to one sex," the study authors said in a statement.

EVEN AS WE GET OLDER, LIFE CAN BE A SONG!

EVEN AS WE GET OLDER LIFE CAN BE A SONG OF HAPPINESS AND HUMOUR. Brenda A. Ysaguirre

To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the
AARP.

One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favourite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

(Sing It!) - If
you sing it, its especially hysterical!!!

Maalox and nose drops and
needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,

These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillac’s and cataracts,
and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and
false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,

These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,

I simply remember my
favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets
and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,

These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,

When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,

And then I don't feel so bad.

Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes
and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humour with
others who would appreciate it.

MUJERES QUIENES SON ACTIVA REDUCEN EL RIESGO DE CANCER EL PECHO

Active women reduce breast cancer risk
CALGARY, Alberta (UPI) -- Physically active women are 25 percent less likely to get breast cancer but some benefit more than others, Canadian and Australian researchers say.

The review, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found lean women, especially if they have been through menopause, who play a sport or undertake other physically activities in their spare time have the lowest risk of breast cancer.

Researchers at the Alberta Cancer Board and the University of Melbourne reviewed the literature and analyzed 62 studies looking at the impact of physical activity on breast cancer risk. Physical activity reduced breast cancer risk in all women except the obese and had the greatest impact in lean women, the review said.

The researchers also found the most physically active women were least likely to get breast cancer and all types of activity reduced breast cancer risk but recreational activity reduced the risk more than physical activity undertaken as part of a job or looking after the house. Moderate and vigorous activity had equal benefits.

Women who were mothers, had no family history of breast cancer or weren't white also had a reduced risk of breast cancer.

MUSIC ICON, BYRON LEE, HAS CANCER

SOCA 'TIL I DIE - Byron Lee says cancer won't stop him
By Jonique Gaynor, Staff Reporter

His battle with bladder cancer, made worse by the unpleasant effects of chemotherapy, is not enough to keep 73-year-old soca monarch Byron Lee away from his true love.
Although his doctors encouraged him to rest for a year, Lee simply could not stay away from Jamaica Carnival, and especially not the road march.
"Music is a vitamin," he said, "The doctors say I'm a crazy fellow, but they don't understand what it means to me. The road is my life, so I will treat it that way. If I have to die, what better way than on the band playing Tiney Winey. There's nothing better to me than playing. The adrenaline pumps because I'm doing what I love."
He continued: "This year, I was in the middle of chemo, but when I went on top of the truck and saw the people, I forgot about that until I got home. Now I'm paying for it."
Lee was diagnosed with stage three cancer in November 2006 and did surgery a year later. This caused him to miss a December 2006 performance in China, the land of his forefathers. Lucky to have caught the disease before it got to stage four, Lee immediately underwent chemotherapy. He told THE STAR, "We did the chemo, but it didn't work 100 per cent. One or two cells got away."
Although a CAT scan, bone scan and biopsy, told him that the treatment had been successfully completed, a decision to do a PET scan may have been the one that saved his life as this revealed that a few cancer cells had survived. "I'm so lucky. God has blessed me," he said, "There are two little dots that they're trying to eradicate now."
Lee left the island for Miami yesterday, both to work and to seek treatment. He is scheduled to do another PET scan next Tuesday and Wednesday to "see where the cancer is, where it's heading and if the treatment is working." He said doctors have advised him to rest for two consecutive months and although this might seem impossible with so many shows, he has delegated most of the physical work to his 14-member team
Lee, who also suffers from kidney stones, said of his disease: "It is very rare, but it is getting prevalent. A lot of people have it but don't know. I would encourage people to go to the doctor.
It is more prevalent in men and it creeps up on you without warning.
It is an aggressive cancer. My cancer was stage three, but it could have been fatal at stage four. That's why I'm not taking any chances. I've got to take every precaution so no cell gets away." He said in most cases, as with his, the only symptom is blood in the urine and problems urinating.
But even while fighting a potentially terminal illness, Lee's main focus is on providing top-quality entertainment for the Jamaican people. He said: "What thrills me is when I look behind the truck and see the people and not one person has a scowl. To see people who don't know each other come together like that is a phenomenon."
Less than a month after Jamaica Carnival 2008, Lee is already planning for the 20th anniversary, which will be celebrated next year. He plans to introduce mini-road marches to all 14 parishes and revive the Kiddies Carnival. Though Jamaica Carnival's main distinguishing factor is the concept of 'Affordable Carnival Attire' (ACA), Lee is planning to introduce a 'pretty mas' aspect as well. This is to accommodate those who appreciate the 'glitz' and 'bling'. Lee was quick to point out, however, that these costumes will still be very affordable. "I don't think you have to tell people to pay $10,000 for costumes," he said, "So, next year, some people will be in pretty mas, but it still won't cost $10,000. I want people to be able to say I played mas with Byron Lee. It is called Jamaica Carnival and that can't be if only a section of the people can participate."
He continued: "I was in Trinidad for 36 years and it was phenomenal. Regardless of their profession, nationality, the people came out as one. I would like to see our motto played out. The rich and poor, boy and master and the maid and her boss can come out as one."
Soca forever
So strong is his love for carnival, that he has made provisions for its continuation in his will. He said: "If tomorrow morning, God forbid, I pass away, carnival will still be there. There are two things that I put in my will. They must never change the route. They must start by Liguanea Prep and then when they get to Andrews Memorial, cut the music so the patients can see it and at least clap their hands. They must never abandon Half-Way Tree as this is the meeting point for uptown, downtown and midtown."
Another of his requests is that carnival never be 'de-Jamaicanised'. He said, "We have to try to make costumes available, so the people are not left out."
He said the support of the Jamaica Tourist Board could do much to push carnival forward. "Jamaica is magic, carnival is magic, both of them together - phenomenal," he said.
He is also confident that his daughters would carry on his legacy. Lee, married for 44 years, said his wife, though she would like to see him rest more, has given in and travels with him. "She makes sure I take my medication."
When not focused on carnival, Lee travels with his band, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. He told THE STAR that the band has about 33 jobs this year. "We've been entertaining people for 50 years and we have another 50 years to go," he said.

YOUR DECEIT

This poem is dedicated to all the women of the world who have been cheated on by the love of their lives.

REALITY is acceptance of the TRUTH and CHANGE is recovery of YOUR LIFE.
Brenda A. Ysaguirre

I don't know what to believe anymore,
The lies are just sweeping the floor,
And when I think about them all,
I just want to stop my fall.

Do you think I am a fool?
Do you think my brain is not tool?
I've seen right through you and that's the truth,
So your lies are just some sour fruit.

I think that you do more harm to you,
Everytime you make me blue,
Because now the blue is turning to red,
And in my heart you are almost dead.

I've tried to tell you to stop the deceit,
To embrace the truth that's at your feet.
But you can't change the life you live,
Not even with all the love I have to give.

I'm living a lie and that's the truth,
My love for you can never bear fruit.
Because you run and hide each time you get,
Don't you realize I love you yet?

You've got it in your hands today,
And yet you cover with all the things you say,
There is love that could have a chance,
If you'd just stop giving others the glance.

But now I know this is the real you,
And there is nothing that I can do,
To make you the person I want you to be,
So it's almost time to set you free.

Victim often knows Sexual Attacker

DURHAM, N.H. (UPI) -- A University of New Hampshire study shows that the vast majority of incidents of unwanted sex on campus are perpetrated by someone the victim knows.

More than 2,400 undergraduate students were surveyed in the 2005/2006 academic year, with previous student surveys conducted in 1988 and 2000.

"Colleges and universities around the country find this same percentage, yet the stereotype remains that the perpetrator is a stranger," the study said. "We need to continue to educate the campus community that acquaintances are most likely to be the perpetrators against women."

Overall, unwanted sexual contact occurs where students live, in the context of social events, and often alcohol is involved, the study said.

Of the female victims surveyed, 85 percent report that someone they know committed unwanted sexual intercourse.

Seven percent reported having unwanted sex themselves, while 25 percent reported unwanted sexual contact, the study found.

Copies of the study are available at: http://www.unh.edu/news/docs/2006unwantedsexualexperiences.pdf.

SELF ESTEEM

Have you ever though what it is like to have no self esteem? Well there are millions of people out there in the world who do not have a great or a good opinin of themselves. These people are faced with something that is very sad. They do not believe in themselves. Unfortunately this happens a lot in lower class citizens of the world.
So, how does one get to value themsleves and build self esteem?

First of all you have to believe in yourself. YOU HAVE TO LOVE YOURSELF. Once you can love yourself, you can believe in yourself and slowly, respect and pride for yourself will flow from deep within you.

Secondly, you have got to keep you head up. There is no use nor need for you to hang your head down everytime there is a problem. You have got to be brave and dance to the tune!

Thirdly, you have got to keep away from negative people. Yes, there are people who spend their lives thinking all the negative things that can be thought. These people are a danger to your life. Their negativity will spread to you and your aura will develop into one of negative vibes. This would then make you feel that you lack the will power to BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE!

Love yourself and love those around you and this world will be one in which you can feel you have the right to be in it.

Set goals that you will work towards. As you accomplish them, set new goals so that there will always be something that you are aiming for.

Good luck on creating the NEW AND IMPROVED YOU!

WHEN REALITY HITS

This is one confusing world in which we live. Last week on this day there was joy and laughter in my heart. Today I sit in front of the comPuter and realize that the roller coaster ride is driving me crazy.

One day there is so much to be happy about and the next we are down in the dumps. This is just suicidal as far as I can see. Now I know why so many people do so many crazy things that end their lives. It is frustrating to say the least. I am not going to sit back and pretend I am different that everyone. I hope I never have to get to the point where I would want to hurt myself physically but the emotional strain I am putting my body and brain through is running me down.

So I became the new woman but what a price to pay. The things that use to make me happy now bore me to death. The things that make me happy now strain me to exhaustion. The things, oh Lord things... I could go on and on and I would end nowhere. This is life. This is the Belizean's woman struggle and also the struggle of many women in the world. We are no different. We feel, fall in love, are happy, get hurt, suffer and then some of us move on while others continue to suffer.
There is no escape sometimes and those who escape, have to be careful or they may end up right back where it all started. This is the reality of life. This is not a dream. It could start out as a dream when the happiness overflows your cup but when it turns to bitter tea then LIFE really begins.

So what should we do. As hard as it may seem, you need to listen to what your friends say. You may have to not listen to your heart sometimes. The heart is a dangerous organ. It can tell you one thing when deep down inside you know you should not listen to it.

Lord, oh, Lord, please give me the strength to follow what I know is right and to accept that sometimes happiness is too big a price to pay.

There are reasons for everything that happens in this world. Sometimes we do not see them immediately but when they finally come through we have got to be strong.
So, as we hurt and want to recover that which we lost, let us know that there is no easy way to move on but we must trust our instincts and our faith will do the rest.

Have a Blessed Sunday,
Brenda

THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS OF BRENDA A. YSAGUIRRE

Remember that there are people in this world who will appear to be one way but once you get to know them you realize you were mistaken.

Life may be filled with hardships but if you set your mind to enjoy each day with what it offers because you are alive, you will be able to live a happy life.

In this imperfect world we are given many tests to see how well we can adapt to the way we want to live our lives.

Love is one of the hardest things we can accomplish in life because it is that which is often lost in our yearn for more.

Honesty is often lost in Mankind so we must never expect it but if we can show it, then that is all that matters.

WE ARE LIVING IN A CRUEL WORLD

This cruel world has shown us that we are monsters to condone what is happening around us. (Brenda A. Ysaguirre)

With all the atrocities happening in the world today I am striken by the thought that there is nothing in this world left to happen. The Texas Cult and the children they have made their "wives" and the 73 year old father who had his daughter locked up for 24 years and had 7 children with her. These are only two of the many things I can't explain and they hurt me to the core. This world has become hell and we have created monsters. Shame on us for not keep track of those around us. We must become our brothers keepers if this world is to have a chance. Maybe it is just as well that the possibilitiy of the world ending in 2012 is probable. With the mass heading straight for earth, maybe it is time for us to start thinking how we can make better the things around us so that our families can have a few years of happiness.
I plee to everyone to become involved. If you know someone is doing something illegal just get off your horse and do something about it. Report them to the police. Let's make a difference today so that the world can be a little better before we all go up in smoke.
